Vintage Playbills for Inspiration and Comic Relief
In the hunt for some turn-of-the-century era typography inspiration I found the archive of Leeds Playbills. Much more than a design reference the playbills are an entertain read. Below are four playbills and circus posters from the 1840s and one from 1915 that caught my eye.
It’s interesting to see how much the English language has evolved in 160 years. My personal highlights from the posters:
